It is also believed to be a direct descendant of the world’s oldest living tree which can be found in Lebanon at around 4,000 years old. Thalia appears most often during times when Greeks look to nature and the ancient gods for inspiration and encouragement in a difficult time or situation.

She is seen as a blessing when she appears but she may also appear disguised as an elderly woman carrying various baskets filled with fragrant flowers like violets, poppies and narcissus flowers that symbolise joy.

She is also associated with the fragrance of flowers, olives and other natural scents. Thalia is usually depicted wearing a crown of myrtle or olive leaves or with a garland of grapes and flowering myrtle or olive leaves.

She is also often shown carrying a basket of flowers or a torch. Thalia is the goddess of friendship and has a special connection to the month of May.

It is believed that she was the first goddess to be worshipped and it was during this month that the ancient Greeks celebrated the festival of her birth to thank her for her blessings.

She is also the goddess of gardens and orchards and as such has been seen as a goddess of fertility. During the summer months, people make offerings to her on the 8th and the 15th of August which is the festival of her birth and the festival of her mother the goddess Leto.

People make offerings of flowers, fruits, bread and water in the hope of receiving her blessings. Leto had a strong presence in the Greek myths and was believed to be the mother of Apollo and Artemis, two of the most important gods in the Greek pantheon.
